West Fork, Lakes Basin and Hurricane Creek Trail

You can get the best of the two canyons by using a car shuttle. You will follow the Wallowa River for 5 miles to a meadow. You can camp here for the night or choose a campsite along one of the lakes on the trail. It's been a gradual uphill, but you've reached near your maximum altitude. You can see a tunnel view of Matterhorn Peak after a few switchbacks. Just before and after the Billy Jones trail junction, you can continue down the Hurricane Creek Trail to established campsites. Continue another 5 miles to the Hurricane Creek trail. The West Fork Trail is popular with day hikers. On weekends, lakeside campsites can be busy. Hurricane Creek is often less crowded.
