Surprise Canyon Route

The short Surprise Canyon route crosses a broad grassy drainage before entering a deep canyon. Bear slightly left to crest a small hill after crossing the dry wash bed of Halls Creek. The trail goes west among colorful outcrops before plunging into a rocky ravine. Take the wash bottom to the deep canyon. The route ends at the base of a waterfall. The canyon's upper reaches can be accessed via a bypass on the left. Progress is difficult due to boulder jams and steep slopes.
