About This Trail

Imported description
Located at the south-western most tip of Zion National Park.  Wind and rain give way to the more traditional creation of mountains via volcanic;  lies Crater Hill.   A cinder cone, Crater Hill is a slippery ascent up a steep, barren, weed patch.  With a rise of 720' feet; barren smooth hillside, bring a bobsled, or a pair or skis and make a day of it.  Traveling toward Zion Nation Park westbound on Hwy-9 passing through Virgin, Utah an Ostrich farm is located on your right (pass the campground).  Immediately on you left is a street sign for Dalton Wash.  Turn left.  A high clearance vehicle is suggested.  The maintained gravel road is good, but rugged, as it leaves the wash to the plateau.  Follow the dirt road on the best path to Crater Hill.  Private property is close by and posted, so be careful to make sure to follow the road to the Zion National Park boundary gate.   A mountain bike trail exists along the fence line.  Pick the best line to the summit.  Hint:  traverse left until the insides of your feet hurt, then traverse right. A summit cairn exists, but no summit registration.  The views in all directions are beautiful, but the stunning West Face of West Temple and Mount Kinesava make the hiking, sliding, and bushwacking worthwhile for this short afternoon hike.
