Champion Road Wash Trail

Easy walk along washbed into lower Lee Canyon, part of main horse trail system You may be surprised at what a close, lovely respite this area is from the heat of summer, yet still accessible in the winter. Blue Tree campground is the center of equestrian activities & trails, and provides a chance to ride your horse under trees, on nice gravel/dirt roads or along washbeds -- all with elevation gains & drops so both rider or hiker get a nice moderate workout. The canyons between here and Angel Peak support deer -- visible at dawn/dusk, and mountain lion tracks & sign around the cliffs and ledges. When you begin this trail, descend the slope and turn R at the bottom, following the washbed SW towards Lee Canyon. When you reach junction of paved roads (SR 158 & SR 156), you could continue up Lee Canyon along this wash, or turn L and follow game paths along & top of ridge until you meet gravel Champion Road. Walk along this road to loop back and up along the slope, crossing Lee Canyon Rd, and walking back into Blue Tree campground. Beware monsoons.
