About This Trail
Head to the junction with the Iron Mountain trail. As the trail goes downhill towards Ramona, you should look for a small cairn on your right. You can begin the cross country hike at the summit. Go over the 2200' mark so you can get to the proper ridgeline. It is better to go over this sore spot on the far right than on the left. Continue climbing until you hit the summit and then try to find each outcrop all the way to the top. As you go, the brush thins out. From the top, you can see the mountains of Ramona and many other counties. The San Diego River Gorge is especially important to me. There's a closeup view of the back side of Iron Mountain and a look at the cliffs that are labeled Pumpkin Peak. Go back the way you went before, and remember where you went so you can find the thickest part of the brush.
