San Francisco Bay Trail Loop

Oyster Bay’s outer loop provides views of both protected wetland habitat and the San Francisco Bay. From the moment you enter the park, you can feel and smell the fresh salt air coming off the bay. Enjoy the breeze and the sounds of the bay lapping at the rocky shore as you walk, bike, or jog along the shore. There are benches along the trail where you can rest and look out over the bay. The interior trail is grassier and less traveled, and offers a different, slightly wilder side of the park. Taking this trail leads to a shaded picnic area. Trail Directions: From the park entrance on Neptune Drive, take the paved San Francisco Bay Trail to the left, along the creek. Stay left as you follow the trail along the bay shoreline and western edge of the park. At the Bill Lockyer Bridge, continue straight; do not cross the bridge. After about 800’ make a sharp right onto a wide, unmarked dirt trail, which will take you up a small hill. After another 600’ go left to connect with a wide gravel trail that will continue the loop. Continue to keep left – the trail will head downhill and return to the Neptune Drive entrance. Alternatively, to extend your trip, once you have connected with the large gravel trail, you may choose to explore the interior of the park. To do this, take the second right at a large dirt fork next to a eucalyptus tree. Keep right and follow the dirt trail south until you come to a crossroads with another wide, dirt path, then make a left. This trail will lead you through a line of trees to a paved trail, picnic area, and restrooms. Take a left on the paved trail and then turn right at the restrooms, continue for 200 ft, then take a left on to the San Francisco Bay Trail to return to the Neptune Drive entrance.
