Momyer Creek Trail to Dobbs Cabin

The trail starts in a rocky parking lot. Walk across the rocky bed of Rattlesnake Creek and then find the trailhead next to the brown sign that is clearly visible. The path bears to the right and then up the hill for 1800 feet gain in 3 miles which is moderately strenuous. The trail is on the south side of the mountain, so this might be hot on a very hot day, but there are oak groves along the first 3 miles to give you a break. This the high point and the trail goes up and down the contour lines until the end. You'll pass the San Gorgonio Wilderness sign and soon thereafter reach the junction labeled for San Bernardino Peak to the left which leads 4+ miles and 3000 feet more to the ridge. Instead, continue straight. The trail continues though oaks and pines with pretty redwoods in the canyons. At Mile 4 you reach Alger Creek Camp when the main trail drops down to a "t" with the Alger Creek Camp noted as being 1/8 mile to the right. The Momyer trail, however continues up to the left, crossing the stream within 20 yards. The trail continues another 1-1/2 miles to the junction with the trail to Plummer Meadow. Somewhere in here you pass some wood debris and rusted metal roofing. Keep right at the Saxton/Plummer junction, and the trail turns around the nose of the ridge and dives into the canyon to the Campground. The trail is at times sketchy here with loose soil, so be careful. The trail keeps dropping to the creek, and the campground is on the other side of the creek with many great campsites. Reportedly, the actual cabin is a few logs at the lower end of the campground.
