Hagan Park to the American River Trail

Ride miniature trains, visit a small petting zoo and let your dog run free all before starting your hike along the river Hagan Park has quite a bit more than your average park in the area. There's free train rides held by the miniature train enthusiasts, there's a petting zoo with bunnies, donkeys and goats, and a dog park. This features enormous grassy lawns, drinking fountains and three separate areas to keep the big dogs segregated from the little dogs. One section is usually closed to allow it to rejuvenate while the other areas get tromped on by domestic pets. It's proximity to the American River provides lots of other activities and you could easily find enjoyable activities here throughout the day. This is the place to be on both 4th of July and Halloween. On the 4th the fireworks are launched from right over the American River. On Halloween there are haunted houses and other fun activities for the kids. Entering the park costs money but, if you look closely on a map, you may find some places to the east where you can park for free. Street parking is sometimes blocked off during the 4th of July weekend though.
