About This Trail
The road leading to the trailhead is often closed due to winter weather. There is an enormous volcanic rock slide. It's a little out of the way but it's a great place for people with a interest in geology and for those who want to be near nature. The landscape of Lassen Volcanic National Park is very young in geological terms, and for an example is Chaos Crags, a mountain of pink dacite that was formed a thousand years ago. The Chaos Jumbles rock slide, a huge pile of rock that broke off from the mountain and smashed down its flanks at speeds over 100mph, destroyed the forest below and left Table Mountain a whole two miles away.
