About This Trail

The trail is in the Nantahala National Forest and in the Standing Indian area. The Bear Pen Trail goes up to the Appalachian Trail below the Albert Mountain summit. The trail begins with an old trail bed that leads to an old forest road. A blue blaze will take you off to the right onto a single track trail following the old road bed. The trail will follow the drainage up but the views of the creek will be obscured when the leaves are down. At a distance, the trail will cross an old roadbed. The trail ends at 3.0 miles at this point. Cars can reach Albert Mountain from the left road. The Appalachian Trail is immediately across the road. The Albert Mountain fire tower is located on the summit of Albert Mountain.
