West Mountain North Summit Trail

This hike follows the north end of West Mountain up to the radio towers on the north summit. Beautiful views of Utah Lake and Utah Valley. Barren, dry and often breezy but views are worth the hike. 3.5 mile one-way distance (7 mile round trip) was started at the gate about 1/4 mile off the asphalt road. The gravel road is closed to vehicles in winter but accessible for hiking. Follow the gravel road about 3/4 to 1 mile then leave the road and head south along steeper OHV trails which head directly towards the top of West Mountain. The OHV trails reconnect with the gravel road just below the radio towers on the North Summit (false summit). The true summit of West Mountain is on the south end of the mountain (follow West Mountain Ridge Trail). If you stay on the gravel road it's less steep but 1.5 miles longer (3 miles longer round trip). So...from the gate its 7 miles round trip if following the steeper OHV trails running nearly straight south to the towers, or it's 10 miles round trip if following the gravel road.
