Weir Canyon to Robbers Peak and Deer Trail

This route takes you from Weir Canyon Wilderness Park (free street parking at Hidden Canyon Road and Overlook Terrace, but Tuesday street sweeping noon to 4 PM) to the Robbers Peak boulder in Santiago Oaks Regional Park, and back via a scenic side trip on Deer Trail. It's nicer route to the peak than from Santiago Oaks where the parking fee is $5. Take the Anaheim Hills Riding & Walking Trail south starting at the service gate marked "Weir Canyon Hidden Gate." Deer Trail branches to the left after about 0.7 miles but stay on Anaheim Hills for another 0.4 miles where it intersects Barham Ridge Trail at the top of Santiago Oaks. Here on a clear day you’ll have gorgeous views of the mountains (north), Downtown Los Angeles (west), Orange County basin (south to west), and the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands (southwest). Look right (northwest) and you'll see the Robbers Peak boulder a quarter mile out. Take Barham Ridge north to enjoy the peak. Return to the Barham Ridge and Anaheim Hills crossing but continue on Barham 1/4 mile to the top of the hill where it meets Deer Trail. Take Deer Trail east for a twisty mile back through wild flowers and oak meadows to Anaheim Hills trail, then return to the trailhead. The signs on the return say “Weir Canyon Wilderness Park.” In the Fall of 2017 wildfires ripped through here. This route is a great opportunity for kids to witness nature gradually return after wildfires.
