About This Trail
The only shades of green that you'll see during the summer of California are in the natural estuaries. The north bank of upper Newport Bay is a perfect place to look at the salt marsh. Cucumber and Eels fill the low flats. Relating, I said "do not touch" and cited willows, sycamores, and Brazillian Pepper. The sand marsh and the coastal sand dunes are found next to the ground, with its sedges and prairie grasses. A good look at the California Least tern and skimmers can be seen with the aid of binoculars or spotting scopes. The best type of birds and ducks occur in the fall. The scenery doesn't compare to a riot of nature around the year.
