About This Trail

Imported description
Walk along the newly created shoreline from St. Thomas townsite to Overton Beach. When you look at this route on the topo, it looks as if you'd have to be able to walk on water (or swim) in order to hike between St. Thomas and Overton Beach. However, the water level has dropped so dramatically along Lake Mead due to the severe drought, that a new shoreline has been created. You might want to carry water shoes (socks) with you in case your hiking boots get soaked, or if you get the urge to walk/play in the water. This shoreline is not the sandy beach most people prefer, it is rocky, muddy, and doesn't smell very good. On the positive side, you should have an isolated hike, with plenty of lake critters visible -- fish, gulls, rabbits, coyotes; and no humans. There are people at Overton Beach, of course, but by then you should be ready for them. This hike can also be done as a point-to-point, with 2 vehicles (or drop off) -- one at St. Thomas, one at Overton Beach. Of course, if you fish as well as hike, this is one to bring your rod along for.
