About This Trail
The severe multi-year dry spell in the southwest has caused the water level in Lake Mead to decrease. St. Thomas has been underwater for 65 years, since Lake Mead was created. St. Thomas was abandoned and re-settled in the late 19th century. The population of St. Thomas was listed in the 1930 US Census. The small agricultural community never had electricity or running water, but was a tight-knit group, who relocated to the town when the water covered their town. There is a lot of information on the internet and in local publications. The trail is being improved quickly. It's a dangerous idea to wear short pants or sleeves since the tamarisks are brutal on bare skin.
