About This Trail

Imported description
Rough cross country route through cactus to (little known) springs, canyon If you LOVE desert hiking, are not afraid to travel off-trail through cactus and rough rocks, and enjoy exploring on your own; this might be a hike you'd enjoy. It is especially important that you understand you cannot cross the Spring Mtn. Ranch State Park land, even where it is not fenced. You need to be completely aware of their boundary. Generally, you will need to hike at or above the 4800' mark (actually onto the base of Sandstone Bluffs) to reach Sandstone Springs without crossing their land. (Not all land at Red Rock Canyon belongs to the BLM/Natl Cons.Area -- some is still privately held, or owned by the state of Nevada). There are a couple of fairly nice burro trails leading you along the base of the bluffs, past Lake Harriet, and to Sandstone Springs. Area sees use by burros, deer, coyote, fox, & even the rare mountain lion (look for tracks), so be very aware of your surroundings. Respect the historical artifacts left by Wilson family & ranchers.
