About This Trail

Incredible views looking down into Red Rock Canyon - for experienced horses Although the scenery is great for this entire ride, only an experienced rider should take a green horse on this one. The first 3 miles are a steady uphill on the old jeep trail. Resist the temptation to cut across country to minimize impact to fragile vegetation & reduce stress on game animals & the little critters who live here. Stay on the main trail and just past the turn off to Rainbow Springs, look for rock cairns on the R(E) side where the trail turns into a path and cuts along the slope. Follow the path & cairns to the wash where you will turn abruptly R(E) and begin following this drainage or washbed as you work your way up the sloping ridge to the edge overlooking the escarpment and Sandstone Canyon. You'll be able to see Lake Harriet at Spring Mtn. State Pk from the edge. Follow the edge trail N till you find the obvious turnoff L(W) on a very well worn horse trail. This is an OLD trail & excellent although there are some scary rocky shale & ledges.
