About This Trail

The southern side of Umstead State Park is where the Sal's Branch Trail lies. It is possible to find a number of activities on the trail. The Visitor Center and the parking areas can be accessed via the campgrounds or parking areas. It is possible to stroll through the pines and hardwoods and over the many streams near Big Lake. The dogs are allowed to use the trail, but they must wear a leash. It is a good place to escape the daily grind, a place to sit in the pines, wait for a fish to bite, to ride a horseback through the woods and enjoy the outdoors. It is easy to get to this park from US 70 and Interstate 40. Take a stroll down the path of wilderness at the city's doorstep.
