About This Trail

The Roaring Run Foot Trail is located in the Roaring Run Natural Area section of Forbes State Forest near Donegal, PA. The trail is rated as moderate because it is narrow and overgrown with steady elevation change. The Roaring Run Foot Trail is primarily a route from the lower section of Roaring Run Natural Area to the upper section. The Roaring Run Foot Trail connects to both the McKenna Trail and Fire Tower Road. From the lower trailhead, the trail proceeds uphill in a northerly direction. At about one mile, the trail intersects a connecting trail that leads northwest to the McKenna trail. This connector is marked, but is not currently shown on the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry map of the area. After passing the connecting trail, the Hillside trail proceeds east for about 0.3 miles before ending at Fire Tower Road. Scenery along trail is typical for Roaring Run Natural Area. The trail also passes the ruins of Mt. Hope School, a small school building that was once used by the area's inhabitants.
