About This Trail

As of March 26, 2020, users have reported that the shelters are CLOSED. Please consult the park's website before visiting. This route covers the entire Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (LHHT) heading southbound from mile 70 in Seward, PA to mile 0 in Ohiopyle. The route was completed in 5 days and 4 nights, but can be adapted to suit your needs and reversed as well. There are mile markers along the entire trail and yellow blazes every 50 feet or so. The extension trails to the campsites are marked with blue blazes and there is a sign post displaying "Shelter Area" at each junction. The terrain can be challenging at times with the most difficult sections at the beginning and end of the trail. There are some amazing views along the way and if you time it right, you can stop by Seven Springs on your way through to get cleaned up and grab a soda. Camping is restricted to certain locations and there is a small fee per person, per night. The following campsite locations can be used. Day 1 - RT 271, Day 2 - Turnpike, Day 3 - Grindle Ridge, Day 4 - Bidwell.
