About This Trail

It is a primitive trail which splits from the Hope Lake Trail. It runs from Poverty Gulch up to the saddle between Golden Horn and Pilot peaks. This approach is used to access these two amazing 13ers. It's a trail that goes along the border of Trout Lake and Hope Lake. It's after a quarter mile that you notice a small creek. The primitive trail is to your left. The creek goes up the Poverty Gulch drainage. It's easy for the trail to slip away as it crosses over the endless scree fields, but take the saddle for the chance to get back on it. You can see the Ice Lake Basin from the saddle. The closest to reaching the top of the mountain would be the Knob Pilot and Golden Horn. This is the easiest way to get to the peaks from the west, and is less complex than the standard route.
