About This Trail

Imported description
The canyon is narrow and picturesque. The most direct way to the Alpine loop is from Ouray, but it is also the most difficult. The road climbs up a scenic canyon and goes to Mineral Point. There are waterfalls at the entrance. The trail has limited parking and can get very busy on busy weekends. It is located in the Uncompahgre National Forest and on BLM land. The Ouray Ranger District is 970 and has current conditions. The San Juan Mountain Center is located in Silverton. It is difficult, but just barely so. It was steep at the beginning. Stock 4WD SUVs can do it with care. There is no room to pass along the narrow road ledge. It is recommended that high clearance, low range and skid plates be used. It is helpful to have some offroad driving experience.
