About This Trail
The paved drive between Ridgway and Telluride is not an alternative to the scenic ranchland and forest backroad. You'll see abundant wildflowers through the summer and fall. Enjoy hiking, camping and mountain biking. Plan plenty of time to visit Telluride. It is recommended that you be prepared for congestion in town during special events. The visitor center is located on the west end of town. The best time to go is in June and September. It is located in the Uncompahgre National Forest. For current conditions, call the Ranger District. It is a dirt road that is suitable for high-clearance, 2-wheel-drive vehicles. It is possible to get stuck in slick clay even for 4-wheel-drive vehicles.
