About This Trail

Imported description
It is the second highest drivable pass in Colorado. The drive is very exciting. Tomboy Townsite is one of the most active mining towns in Colorado. There is a lot of mining debris left over. It is on private property, and could be dangerous to explore. The pass is usually snowed on in early July. On the south side unlicensed vehicles are not permitted and they need to start from Camp Bird Road. The best time to leave is in July-September. The location is in the Uncompahgre National Forest. Call the Ouray Ranger District for current conditions. This trip should be taken with care. It is difficult to get around on the road, which is steep and narrow. The stock SUVs should have skid plates and high clearance. It was a saying that said experienced drivers only.
