Heather Lake, Pear Lake, Upper Big Bird Lake, Moose Lake, Mehrtet Meadow Loop

This is a multi day trip. Wolverton to Pear Lake is a popular hike, with options along the way to take either the Watchtower Trail or the Hump Trail. Pear Lake is a great camping spot.  There is a Pear Lake ranger station, and the lake has permanent outhouses.   Pear Lake to Upper Big Bird Lake.  Stay to the North as you exit that canyon and it will be less steep, and a more direct route toward Big Bird.  The Table Meadows area is pretty neat. The Tablelands are endless granite, with no trees or wildlife. Once you get to above Big Bird Lake, this route takes a very steep descent down to Upper Big Bird Lake, and ends there instead of continuing on.   Upper Big Bird to Alta Meadows (~6.8 mi) Once you come out of the Upper Big Bird bowl, it is pretty easy hiking to Moose Lake.  Moose Lake is very shallow, and may be a good fishing spot.  There is a trail that goes around the lake on the West side, which this route follows. Alta Meadow itself is beautiful, covered in ferns of all different shades Alta Meadows to Wolverton (~6.6 mi) There are some good views on this portion of the trip, especially of Castle Rocks, along with some rock outcropping off the trail that looks like a lion.
