About This Trail

The view from the Mt. is panoramic. It was St. Helen's crater that led to Spirit lake. It's not to be missed! This is a great way to get a sense of the destruction from the 1980 eruption. You'll hike with a crater in front of you or on your right most of the way, then turn towards the east mountains as you reach Harry's Ridge. You can see the crater from Harry's Ridge, and the logs from the eruption are still moving across the lake. You will find wildlife and berries along the way. If you're lucky, the elk will head off the mountain into the valley to feed and rest for the night, and you'll be on your right most of the way back. The fee can be paid inside the observatory.
