About This Trail

The city of Columbia is a few miles away, but the solitude of the 750-acre Gans Creek Wild Area allows visitors to forget about it. The hills are surrounded by high bluffs which allow small streams to flow into the creek. The bottom and sides of the creek are often solid bedrock. The water flows slowly over the riffles into pools. The flowers are abundant. The trees grow on moist, shaded hillsides. White oaks are abundant in the forested area. There are small glade openings on the rocky bluff tops. The vistas of hills and trees can be seen from the Shooting Star bluffs.
