Non-Hawaii residents need an advance entry and parking reservation to enter the monument and hike the summit trail. Hawaii residents with ID do not. The last reservation to hike the trail is 4:00 pm, and the gates are locked at 6:00 pm. Book through the state parks reservation site; fees and time slots change, so check there.
