Deer Creek Hills Loop

Deer Creek Hills Preserve Trails: This trail is only open to the public on Saturdays, February-May, on a docent-supervised, check-in/check-out basis from 9:00am to 1:00 pm. The Sacramento Valley Conservancy owns and manages the preserve, with some area as part of Sacramento County Parks. The area also serves as a working cattle ranch November through June. SVC guided hikes include birding, biology, history, geology, stargazing, equestrian, biking (June through Oct.), and special events. REI leads guided hikes (photography, map and compass, running) with the REI Outdoor School. Youth outings can be scheduled through staff during the school-week for field trips, but staff or volunteer docents must be present. SVC has agreements with the local collages (CSUS, UCD, Los Rios Community Colleges) to use the space for higher educational learning purposes. Access to the preserve is only with the explicit permission of the Sacramento Valley Conservancy. If there is no SVC staff or docent to check you in, you will be considered to be trespassing.
