About This Trail
The Bear River is located in northern Utah, in the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. The largest freshwater component of the Great Salt Lake is protected by the refuge. The refuges auto tour route is open year-round. The heart of the refuge is the location of the auto tour. The refuge headquarters are easy to find. The auto tour is one way. If you are stopped to view or photograph wildlife, please pull over for others. There are many pull-offs for this reason. The beginning of the auto tour has a security gate. If you are leaving in the evening and the gate is already closed, please approach slowly and the gate will open.
