About

The BLM's Box Elder Campground is 6 miles north of Dove Creek. The campgrounds have picnic tables, fire rings, and two vault toilets. The shade of the box elder grove and proximity of the river give the site an element of relief from the heat. It is free to camp at this site and you have to take a first come, first serve basis. When there is a boatable release from McPhee on the lower Dolores, it is the busiest part of the year. It's possible to fill this small campground during the holiday weekends. Please contact the field office for more information. There is an accessible toilets vault.
