Youghiogheny River to Jonathan Run Falls

Hike along the Youghiogheny River Trail from Ohiopyle to the famous Dimple Rock, the most difficult rapid on the Lower Yough. The trail is quite easy up to the waypoint "ds". There is a small marker on the trail indicating the path down to the river. Near that is a larger sign warning against unauthorized swimming in the rapids. Be careful on the steps, as many of them are rotted out. Once you reach the river, there are a number of rocks along the shoreline. Hike upstream for a short distance to reach Dimple Rock. When it is wet the rocks are quite slippery, so be careful. The best times to do this are during rafting hours on Saturday and Sunday, between 9am and 2pm, during summer and early fall months. Pull up a spot on the rock and enjoy the show of rafters navigating the rapids! Check the height of the river before doing this hike. If the river is high, there will be no rafts to watch, and the river will be flowing over the lower rocks, making it dangerous or impossible to reach Dimple.
