About This Trail

There are two ways to get to the top of Wheeler Monument. There is a hike listed on AllTrails and a 4WD road. This road is very long for a hiker and is easy for an off-road vehicle. Users have reported that the road is closed occasionally. It's recommended that high clearance 4WD vehicles are used. Users have reported a lot of downed trees. The hike is mostly flat. The hike mainly goes across a flat mesa. The geologic area is beautiful. Teddy Roosevelt established a national monument in 1911 but it was later designated a wilderness because few people could travel to the remote area.
