West Trapps to Cope’s Lookout loop

This is a pleasant walk along carriage roads which takes you from Mohonk Preserve's West Trapps parking lot to Cope's Lookout. You can bike this route as well as cross-country ski it, and you're allowed to bring your dog(s), none of which you can do in the case of the somewhat longer loop which includes the Mohonk Mountain House. Note that, during the snow season, all except the West Trapps Connector and Undercliff are closed to hikers, as these roads are groomed for cross-country skiers and snowshoers. From the parking lot at West Trapps, take the West Trapps Connector east. At the point where you meet Overcliff and Undercliff Roads, take a left onto Overcliff, which gently ascends, and then descends. Shortly after the descent starts, you'll have good views to the NW and the Catskill Mountains. Right after a sharp serpentine, take a left onto the short connector link down to Laurel Ledge Road, where you turn left. This road climbs as it loops its way to Cope's Lookout, which has a gorgeous view of the Catskills. Stay straight onto Humpty Dumpty Road and then pick up Long Woodland Drive. At the end of Long Woodland, take a right onto Old Minnewaska Road, which descends a moderately steep hill to Rhododendron Bridge, Jog to the right and then immediately turn left onto Undercliff Road, following it (with views to the Hudson Valley on your left, and cliffs with rock climbers on your right) until it ends, at which point you take the West Trapps Connector back to your starting point.
