The Hilltop Mine Trail

An old mining facility still in decent condition located well above treeline. From the closure gate continue hiking along the road past the Dauntless mine. After ascending a hill the road will curve to the right (watch for arrows made from rocks in the road to help you). There are several spur roads off of the main one, however most don't take you far before you realize your on the wrong path. You will see on the hillside above you the Hilltop mine and the road leading to it. This is your destination. The road passes around a small pond and then does a switchback up the last steep slope to the mine. As you go up the switchbacks look downhill back towards Leavick and you will see the remains of the arial tram towers that once carried ore from the Hilltop Mine all the way down to Leavick. Follow the road between two old bunk houses (one still standing) then come up from the backside of the Hilltop Mine to view it. If you look up to the saddle above you will see a couple of the remaining telegraph poles and wires.
