Stissing Mountain Full Loop

Stissing Mountain Multiple Use Area comprises two small loops that overlap to form a figure eight. This is the full loop formed by taking parts of both small loops, and skipping the cutoff between them. This route begins and ends at the western parking area that's right on the main road, but it's also possible to do the same loop from the northern parking area accessible by dirt road. You can shorten it by taking the cutoff and skipping the north/east loop, but you won't pass the lake or the stream. Parts of the trail don't see much traffic, so in places it can be hard to follow: keep a keen eye out for the variously red, yellow, and purple trail markers. It's a bit easier to follow the loop in a clockwise direction. There's a small stream crossing, and the bridge is out; conveniently, a tree has fallen across in just the right spot! The best part of this hike is what's just off of it: follow the creek downstream to a lake with beaver lodges and an incredible system of tiered beaver dams where it flows out to the south.
