It seems that Shelburne Pond has retained its rich nature despite being close to Burlington. The pond has 400 acres of swamps, marshes, and rich woods associated with it. Birds and plants can be found in these habitats. The University of Vermont uses the pond as an educational resource. The H. "Oval" at Shelburne Pond has been largely owned and maintained by the University of Vermont. The nature area at Shelburne Pond is 30 years old and has been protected by the Conservancy and UVM.
