The alternate trail starts in the Grant Creek area. The Stuart Peak trail is a quick way to connect. If you are going to connect into the Rattlesnake Wilderness, I would not take a dog. There are seasonal and year-round restrictions. Dogs can be off leash until you reach the junction, but first you must be on a leash. Dogs are not allowed at the junction.
