Posion Spider and Golden Spike OHV Trail

Golden Spike is one of the most popular and difficult off-road driving trails near Moab. Golden Spike is in the middle of two other difficult trails: Poison Spider and Gold Bar Rim. Golden Spike is a dream trail of challenging obstacles, which include such well-known names as the Launch Pad, Skyline Drive, the Golden Crack, the Golden Stairs, The Wall and Double Whammy. Much of the trail skirts the edge of high cliffs overlooking Moab. The trail cannot be accessed directly from any paved highway. To reach Golden Spike you must first drive Poison Spider Mesa from the south or Gold Bar Rim from the north. Most people drive the trail from the south, as it is described here. Open all year weather permitting. Best time to go: Spring and Fall. Located on BLM land. For current status call Bureau of Land Management, Moab Field Office at (435) 259-2100. Please note that this is a difficult trail for experienced off-roaders only. One of the toughest and most time-consuming trails in the Moab area. Climb and descend numerous high rock ledges. Daunting slickrock maneuvers. Few bypasses. Differential lockers, high ground clearance, and body protection highly recommended. Vehicle suspension is severely tested.
