About This Trail

The first paved road to Newfound Gap was the Old Sugarlands Trail. The wagon road was through the center of the Sugarlands Community before it was paved. The first paved roads over the mountains were built using a quarry near the trail. The first 1.5 miles are narrow. The work of the CCC can be seen in the signs of the past. The trail begins a gradual climb at 2 miles. You have reached the second part of the trail after the nice climb. The trail head is to the next trail "Twin Creeks trial", if you turn left. The trail goes for a short distance and then heads into the trees. You will have a small creek crossing. This trail leads you to the home of the person who wrote it. You can follow the road into Gatlinburg and have lunch, then head west and see the last leg, the Gatlinburg Trail. This 2.5 miles is peaceful and flat.
