Moneyhole Mountain

This is nice "walk in the woods", i.e., no spectacular scenery, but a relatively easy walk, passing a small lake (Catfish Pond) before making the climb up to the (relatively flat) top of Moneyhole Mountain. There is no parking on South Highland Road (which is only slightly more than one lane wide) right at the trailhead, but there are a couple of one-car pullouts just to the east, with a pullout for 7-8 cars 0.2 miles to the east. Start on Moneyhole Mountain Access Trail (green), which starts out flat and then makes a mild ascent. At 0.4 miles, bear to the left onto the Moneyhole Mountain Trail (yellow), which has some ups and downs (and some "tunnel-like" sections because of encroaching mountain laurel bushes). At 1.1 miles, you'll see Catfish Pond off to your left (at least in leaf-down conditions). Shortly thereafter, the trail starts a moderate climb to the top of the mountain, although you'll probably only know you've "arrived" if you're looking at your map, which has a summit marker there, since, even in leaf-down times, there's only a quite occluded view of the surrounding terrain. Take a break and then retrace your steps. (The trail actually continues to the north from the summit for another 0.4 miles, ending at Indian Brook Road.)
