About This Trail

It is home to two of the most important geologic features in the world-- the Exelsior Geyser and the Grand Pumatic Spring. Midway Geyser Basin is much smaller than the other basins. A large feature is its 200 feet by 300 feet Excelsior Geyser which fills 4,000 gallons a minute into the Firehole River and is the large hot spring. The Midway Geyser Basin is about half a way between the Madison and Old Faithful regions of the park. The trail will lead south to cross the Firehole River. You will see streams of steaming water in the Firehole River.
