About This Trail

The Fountain Paint Pot area in the park contains springs, geysers, a fumarole, and more. This trail is easy to navigate. You will see a number of features that are expressions of the volcano. There are two types of features: those with a lot of water and those with limited water. The lower Geyser Basin is where all of this area is located. You can see the geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles here. Thermus aquaticus, the thermophile organisms that changed DNA processes, was found in this area. The only geyser outside of Old Faithful that interpretive rangers predict is the Great Fountain Geyser.
