About This Trail

Imported description
Start from Spruce Gulch just out of Deadwood to a ridge overlooking town. Most of the houses along Spruce Gulch had been destroyed by the 2002 fire that came right to the edge of Deadwood. Then climb to another high point just labeled 5492' on topo maps. And head down into a tributary of Strawberry Creek. The hill this trail backtracks on is called Massarce Hill by the Trail Guides. Then drop down into a tributary of Two-Bit Creek where there were several homes. As you climb out of Two Bit Creek, you will pass by an old abandoned mine. Finish the day coming back up this same trail. This trail shows up on topo maps and eventually drops down into Lost Gulch and goes by a cabin we passed yesterday. Take the other branch of Lost Gulch over the divide at 5340 on the SW slope of Bear Den Mountain, and go down the switchbacks into Galena (you can get lunch here). After drive west out of Galena and go through the car wash along Bear Butte Creek. Here you will head up north on Camp 5 road and there will be areas to rock crawl along Park Creek just upstream of where it dumps into Bear Butte Creek.
