About This Trail

Imported description
Depart camp in route to the Johnston Cabin on Camas Creek. There is petroglyphs there. Travel on Wickahoney Road to the gas pipeline, south to the Lower Battle Creek Crossing, then to Dickshooter and Camas Creek. After crossing Battle Creek, you may meet friendly buckaroos. They will give you permission to cross the private land there in route to the Johnston Cabin. The private land had been in their family’s possession since 1923. The original homestead rock structure, built in 1910, is still intact at Dickshooter. It has a sod roof. There are two doors on the west side. The one to the north was the entry to the living quarters. The other was the barn entry. (Note: The road from Dickshooter to the Johnston Cabin at Camas Creek was very bad.) Much of it was washed out down to bedrock and boulders were scattered over it in inappropriate areas for vehicular travel. As you arrive at Camas Creek, hike downstream and check out the surroundings. The ride from the Lower Battle Creek Crossing to the Johnston Cabin borders the Owyhee River and Pole Creek Wildernesses.
