About This Trail

The lake is beneath the fearsome north face of the highest and most imposing peaks in Washington. Stuart Lake is at 5600 feet elevation. It is a 30 acre lake with easy fishing access in many places. The lake has a very healthy population of fish. The trail to the lake is marked and used. You can see the Enchantment Mountain Range when you follow Mountaineer Creek for over 3 miles. The elevation gain to Lake Stuart is 1700 feet, but it is not very difficult to hike. Mount Stuart is at the southwest end of the lake. You want to go up to Colchuck Lake but know that it is a long hike.
