Ipsut Creek Campground via Carbon River Trail

While the 2006 flood closed the Carbon River Road to motor vehicle traffic, the approximately 5 mile (8 km) road is still accessible to hikers or mountain bikers, up to the Ipsut Creek Campground and trailheads. This route shown follows the main road that leads to the Ipsut Campground (which is no longer able to be driven to with washouts). There are plenty of spur hikes to do off this road including, Green Lake, Chenuis Falls (bridge is out), Ipsut Falls, Carbon Glacier and Mowich Lake. All are awesome hikes but please note that while bikes are welcome on Carbon River Road, they are not welcome on the spur trails mentioned here. Take your time and watch your step with the trail detours. Since this campground used to be accessible by car it has many of the amenities of a drive up campsite- you will find bear boxes, fire pits, picnic tables, and toilets. If you plan on camping, swing by the Carbon River Ranger Station for a permit. The Carbon River runs next to the campground, which provides opportunities for fishing or swimming. You can also hike the .2 miles past the campground and check out Ipsut Falls.
