Grant Hill Trail

If you are looking to get out of the low desert heat and do some biking, this is for you. Head up Highway 366 which is off US 191 south of Safford and north of Willcox. The road is very twisty with lots of switchbacks, but paved for about 18 miles. You will pass various campgrounds (Arcadia) and trails (Lady Bug Pass) but continue on to Hospital Flat.  A nice campground with about 10 walk-in tent only sites. Bike from here, about 0.8 miles further up the road to Milepost 138 where the trail head is located on your left.  Head clockwise on the trail for the best ride. Go slightly up hill, pass through the gate, and then the trail heads downhill for a nice cruise.  About 1 mile into the ride, look for the short side trail which goes out to an overlook with great views into Bonita, Fort Grant and the road into Aravaipa Canyon. After the overlook, return to the trail which now turns to single track, but continues up.  Eventually, you reach the junction with the first of 3 bail outs back to the trail head. Head left on the outside loop which is now double-track again. Further along it turns into single track again on the far west side. Join a double track again and watch for the signs to continue on switchbacks off the old fire roads and #2 and #3 bailouts back to the trail head. Great ride and nice mixture of double-track and single track.
