Grandview Peak via Great Western Trail

Getting to this mountain is no easy task. If you have a high clearance four wheel drive this route gives you the shortest hiking distance of about eight miles round trip. The Great Western Trail follows the ridge of the mountains along the Davis Morgan County line. The trail skirts some of the lesser peaks making it a fairly steady assent until you reach the base of Grandview. The last half mile is the steepest with no established trail but the view from the top is incredible and worth the effort to get there. Grandview rises to 9410 feet and is the highest peak in this general area. Grandview peak is a little harder to get to than many of the spectacular in the Wasatch front but is definitely worth the effort to get there. Note: Dogs are not allowed in Little and Big Cottonwood Canyon, City Creek Canyon, Emigration Canyon, Parley's Canyon (north & east of Mountain Dell Reservoir), Little and Big Willow Creek and South Fork of Dry Creek because it is part of critical watershed for Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County.
