About This Trail
The trail leads from the earthwork of Fort McCook to the boardwalk and is full of history. Hikers will find the stone foundation and root cellar at the site of an early 20th-century home. This is one of the many signs of the former inhabitants of the area. The soldiers in blue and gray traveled this route during the Civil War. Flat spots along the side of the trail indicate possible tent pads. The Civil War earthwork of Fort McCook is a must see before you start the trail.
